What's in a name?
When people ask about the SYMETA project unless they are in the world of science or engineering they scratch their heads at the mention of metamaterials. What are they? Simply put, metamaterials are materials which have been fabricated to have properties which are not normally found in nature. One of our researchers, Professor Roy Sambles, is the current President of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and their website offers up a detailed history and definition of metamaterials.
